Fescue
Description
Fescue (festuca pratensis) is a perennial grass which is grown almost exclusively for hay. When harvested after the seed harvesting in the fall often sold as straw. Fescue straw provides a good source of roughage.

Harvesting and Yields
Fescue should be harvested early in the summer when the plants' seed heads are in the boot to early heading stage of growth. Harvested too late, fescue hay can lose its nutritional value, especially the protein. Early harvesting also helps reduce fungal contamination and will be leafier and more digestible. Yields of 2 to 4 tons/acre.
